Rockford PAC Endorses Candidates for Rock Valley College Board of Trustees
March 14, 2019.
The Rockford Regional Good Government PAC (Rockford PAC) today announced its support for Rock Valley College (RVC) Board of Trustees candidates. In the upcoming April 2nd election, there are four open seats on the RVC Board, and Rockford PAC has made endorsements for the four open seats.
The upcoming election will determine the majority for the seven-member Rock Valley College Board of Trustees. Rockford PAC supports the current direction of the college and recommends that Patrick Murphy and Lynn Kearney be retained to continue the significant work they have begun. We commend the college for its enhanced collaboration with the K-12 school systems and for the decision to join other partners in launching Colman Village – where economic and workforce development will be emphasized and cultivated. We also believe the experience and values of Jarid Funderburg and Gloria Cudia prepare them to make important contributions to the progress currently underway at our community college.
The following are endorsed:
Lynn Kearney – 6-Year Seat
Lynn Kearney is the current RVC Board Chairperson and has served as a trustee since 2013. During her tenure, the college has established financial stability despite the challenges presented by the state budget crisis. As an RVC graduate and retired teacher, Lynn brings an educator’s perspective to the RVC Board. Lynn credits her father, an RVC professor, for instilling in her “the importance of hard work, advocating for your community, and the transformative power of education.”
Gloria Cardenas Cudia – 6-Year Seat
Gloria Cardenas Cudia is an experienced civic leader who has helped foster diverse participation in educational and business opportunities throughout the region. Her experience includes service as a commissioner for the Rockford Park District, and as a member of the Rockford School Board. We believe her strong work ethic, her commitment to entrepreneurialism, and her leadership within the local Hispanic community will make her a uniquely important voice on the RVC Board of Trustees.
Jarid Funderburg – 6-Year Seat
Jarid Funderburg is a former RVC Trustee and possesses a deep knowledge of the region’s economic conditions and opportunities. His work experience affords him insight in the building trades, philanthropy and economic development. He currently is engaged with regional employers to grow our area’s economy. Jarid’s board experience and understanding of our region will be a great addition to the RVC Board.
Patrick Murphy – 2-Year Seat
Patrick Murphy is a past RVC Board Chairperson and has served as a trustee since 2013. As an entrepreneur who founded a small business focused on today’s manufacturing, Patrick Murphy understands the important link of relevant education and employment opportunities. Patrick’s experience makes him a subject matter expert within the advanced manufacturing sector. He is an active supporter of programs and initiatives throughout the RVC campus. He’s a true student advocate.
Rockford PAC commends all candidates for their willingness to serve our community’s college. We encourage RVC leaders to build upon their interest in educational excellence through continued involvement with these individuals.
